Upland Support Associate (Orvis Sandanona) – Millbrook, NY

The Upland Support Associate is one of the cultural leaders of the Orvis Sandanona team, responsible for achieving sales goals, customer satisfaction, and profitability growth as well as understanding, practicing, and being a strong proponent of the Orvis brand and the company culture. The Upland Support Associate is a professional role model in attitude and appearance, skilled in the art of communication and customer service, who can teach these skills to the team and ultimately lead by example.

Position Interfaces

This position reports directly to the Upland Manager.

Performance Measurements

Performance will be evaluated on the position responsibilities and on the financial measurements of the Upland Department goals.

General Responsibilities of the Upland Support Associate will be:

Maintaining the customer service levels on all hunting activities and the maintenance of the upland department including but not limited to:

• Assist in all facets of the upland membership activities including upland hunting, mallard releases, continental releases, and driven shoots.

• Help to maintain bird inventory – ordering, feeding, watering, medication

• Receive bird orders, feed deliveries, etc.

• Bird pen maintenance

• Mallard exercising and feeding

• Mallard home pond maintenance

• Duck Swamp maintenance including blinds, walkways, roadways, as well as aerators and ice removal

• Assist with dog kennels- cleaning, maintenance, repairs, feeding dogs, etc.

• Help to maintain all work vehicles related to hunts: Trucks, plows, 4 wheelers

• Help to maintain all access roads

• Year around maintenance on the release shoot areas and holding ponds

• Assist snow removal teams including: ordering sand and salt, preparation of plow trucks and tractors, scheduling staff for snow removal for release areas, bird pens, and access roads.

• Bird processing and routine organization and sanitation of processing plant and cooler/freezer.

Spring -Summer and off season:

• Field maintenance – assist in farming and general field prep

• Grounds keeping and maintenance (lawns, ponds, kennels, etc.)

• Help support all other Orvis adventure departments at Sandanona when needed

Goals for Growth

• Gundog program – work towards owning and training a hunting dog.

• Farming – Assist in cutting and planting of new crops, learn farming techniques as applicable to the Sandanona property.
