Upland Guide / Dog Handler – Millbrook, NY

The Upland Guide & Dog Handler maintains customer service levels on all upland hunting activities.  This position will guide customers in the upland field and the successful candidate will have an upland dog with the ability to successfully lead customers in this hunting environment.

Position Interface

This position reports directly to the Upland Clays Manager and will interact daily with other sporting adventures associates. 

Guide Requirements

The Upland Guide and Dog Handler will meet the following requirements:

• Lead and direct an upland dog on successful hunts

• Proven experience working with customers and providing world class customer service
• Full ownership of a trained upland dog (see canine requirements below)

• Ability to cover uneven ground and walk long distances in the field

• Ability to maintain a safe field experience for guests and working dogs

Criteria for Dog Handling:

The canine candidate will be able to complete the following:

• Dogs will be approachable and friendly and work in an upland environment while keeping a calm disposition.

• Dogs need to be close-working, obey basic commands, and be steady to shoot and flush

• Must be able to work cover between guns and within shooting range of customer

• Must be proficient in pointing/flushing and retrieving game

• Dogs must be skilled in retrieving and delivering downed game to hand

• Dogs must be calm and quiet, either at heel, or on a short lead

• Dogs must obey basic commands; sit, stay, come (here) etc.
• There will be a test of these abilities prior to hire.
