We are seeking a STAFF ACCOUNTANT join the Orvis Team!  This is a remote/hybrid position in the Roanoke, VA area. One half day in the office every other week will be required to process physical mail.

 

The Staff Accountant's role involves managing state and local tax compliance, supporting inventory tasks, and general ledger transactions.  The incumbent is responsible for applying appropriate accounting practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This position also includes maintaining files, reports, and various financial records and documents.

Position Interfaces:

This position reports to the Controller and has no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monthly sales tax preparation.
    • Reconciliation of Avalara tax system to Oracle ledger.
    • Facilitate return preparation and filing.
    • Reconciliation of prepayments, quarterly remittances, unused credits, etc.
    • Review and respond to notices, minimizing penalties and interest.
  • Maintain accurate and organized tax records.
  • Assist with tax audits.
  • Prepare and file miscellaneous tax items (annual reports, business licenses, VAT, etc).
  • Duty and freight application to inventory costs.
  • Monitor and manage physical and electronic mail.
  • Exhibit focus, discipline, sense of urgency, and drive for continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Competencies and Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent technical knowledge and expertise.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in the accounting field, retail environment a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Inquisitive and independent.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability to work extra hours as required.
