We are seeking a SENIOR ALLOCATION ANALYST – Men’s & Women’s Apparel to join the Orvis Team! This is a remote position, with preference given to those candidates within a reasonable drive to our headquarters in Sunderland, VT.

 

The Senior Allocation Analyst – Men’s & Women’s Apparel is responsible for optimizing inventory placement across Orvis retail stores and omni-channel fulfillment locations to drive sales, maximize inventory productivity, and deliver a strong customer experience. This role ensures the right assortment of apparel—across sizes, colors, and styles—is available in the right stores at the right time.

 

Partnering closely with Merchandise Planning, Merchandising, and Retail teams, the Senior Allocation Analyst analyzes demand trends and inventory productivity to execute allocation strategies that support seasonal launches, key product stories, and promotional events. This role plays a critical part in driving sell-through, inventory productivity, and in-stock performance across the Orvis apparel business.

Position Interfaces:

This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Apparel Planning. There are no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Allocation & Inventory Optimization

  • Develop and execute allocation strategies for Men’s and Women’s Apparel across the Orvis retail fleet.
  • Manage initial allocations for seasonal apparel launches, new collections, and key product stories.
  • Ensure optimal placement of inventory across sizes, colors, and styles to support customer demand and reduce store-level fragmentation.
  • Analyze store performance and regional demand patterns to adjust inventory flow and maximize selling opportunities.
  • Proactively rebalance inventory through store-to-store transfers and reallocations to improve sell-through and minimize excess inventory.

Sales & Inventory Performance Management

  • Monitor key performance metrics including Net Sales, Sell-Through %, Weeks of Supply (WOS), In-Stock %, and Inventory Turn.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity through allocation adjustments, inventory rebalancing, and channel shifts.
  • Support the planning team in managing inventory levels to achieve seasonal inventory targets and end-of-season objectives.
  • Monitor inventory health across size scales and color depth to maintain strong presentation and conversion in stores.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Merchandise Planners and Merchants to align allocation strategies with assortment plans and sales forecasts.
  • Partner with Retail leadership to understand store needs, selling patterns, and regional apparel demand.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and Distribution teams to ensure timely product flow from DC to stores.
  • Support omni-channel initiatives, including ship-from-store and store inventory availability for digital demand.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Maintain reporting and dashboards to monitor apparel performance across stores and channels.
  • Provide insights on store productivity, size selling patterns, and regional demand trends.
  • Analyze promotional and seasonal performance to inform future allocation strategies.

Strategic Initiatives

  • Support improvements in allocation processes, reporting, and system capabilities.
  • Participate in seasonal planning cycles including assortment launches, promotional events, and inventory transitions.
  • Help develop strategies to improve size availability, inventory flow, and overall store productivity.

 

Competencies and Requirements:  

 

Experience

  • 4–7+ years of experience in retail allocation, merchandise planning, or inventory management.
  • Experience in apparel industry
  • Omni-channel retail experience preferred.

Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable allocation decisions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas, and data analysis).
  • Experience with retail planning and allocation systems preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.

Attributes

  • Strong understanding of apparel retail dynamics including size curves, color depth, and seasonal demand patterns.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with planning, merchandising, and retail partners.
