Fly Fishing Instructor – Orvis SandanonaMillbrook, NY

Fly-fishing experience is required - we will provide training on how to teach others to love the sport! Candidate must be local to Millbrook, NY.
Position Interfaces
The position reports to the Upland Manager.
General Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain the safety and well-being of students during schools and guide trips
- Perform and explain fly casting demonstrations
- Teach Orvis fly casting methods and provide individual guidance and coaching
- Teach knot tying
- Conduct classroom presentations on topics such as: technical information on lines, rods and reels, choosing flies, and how to handle, photograph and release fish
- Lead groups of up to 2ppl on 2-4hr guided fishing excursions on local water
- Assist students in making informed decisions on the purchase of fly fishing equipment and apparel
- Maintain the physical appearance of the school classroom
Required Qualifications:
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrated proficiency in fly casting and fishing skills
- Knowledge of technical specifications of fly fishing equipment and the ability to educate others
- Knowledge of and experience with various types of fishing, with an emphasis on the school’s specific fishery
- Knowledge of and experience with freshwater and saltwater fly fishing
NY State Guides License recommended but not required initially.
